CEYLON BROKEN ORANGE PEKOE

This is the most common size of tea leaf, providing one of the best examples of Ceylon character and strong flavour.

About the tea

Ceylon Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) is a renowned black tea that embodies the essence of Sri Lanka’s rich tea heritage. Grown in the lush highlands of the island nation, Ceylon tea is celebrated for its distinctive characteristics, including a robust flavour profile, brisk astringency, and a lingering, malty aftertaste.

Sri Lanka’s unique terroir, characterized by its diverse microclimates, fertile soils, and abundant rainfall, contributes to the exceptional quality of Ceylon tea. The island’s diverse elevations, ranging from sea level to over 2,000 meters, allow for the cultivation of teas with varying flavours and characteristics.

Ceylon BOP, in particular, offers a balanced cup with a medium body and a bright, copper-coloured liquor. Its leaves are smaller and more broken than whole-leaf varieties, making it a popular choice for everyday brewing. The tea’s strength and complexity make it a versatile option, suitable for enjoying both black and with milk.
